Hypar Legacy
2024
The phrase “less is more” originally coined by Van der Rohe, has been used extensively (and poorly) by designers and architects since the 20th century. Yet, it seems that we designers do little to question the real meaning of this phrase.

For the last two years I have been personally questioning myself, how to do less with more, how to be efficient and in some way, how to design lightness.

This short publication explores the relevance and potential applicability of the Hypar movement in contemporary design scenarios.

We live in an era increasingly characterised by scarce raw material resources, overwhelming waste production, and an urgent need to reassess the environmental impact of our practice.
In this context, the essay seeks to find out whether the principles and innovations of the Hyperbolic shapes can offer meaningful insights or solutions.

Lastly, the document is accompanied with an editorial appendix showcasing the current state of some of this constructions in Mexico City, Culiacán, Cuernavaca and Guadalajara.

His practice constantly strives to combine hyper-local landscapes with the use of advanced manufacturing techniques to produce various material experiments, which often lead to industrial design pieces, limited editions, and self-initiated projects.
