Little Helper
2023

The Future is... Older. By 2050, the population aged over 60 will almost double, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).

In collaboration with Horgenglarus and the Senior Lab, ECAL presents unique work that brings together a range of wooden objects meeting the needs of elderly users, far from the stereotypes usually associated with this category.

The Little Helper is a step stool designed to perform ordinary tasks, such as reaching higher or lower surfaces.
By utilizing Horgenglarus’s steam bending techniques, a compact and strong construction is achieved. The stool is extremely lightweight for easy mobility around the house, yet sturdy enough for confident everyday use.

The extra-long leg provides an element of support and security from every direction when handling the stool.

Made in ECAL under the guidance of Sam Hetch (Industrial Facility)

Photography: Tanguy Morvan and Marvin Merkel.

Eduardo Altamirano (MX, 1992) is an independent designer who graduated from Écal Master in Product Design. Since 2017 he has been actively working in the three-dimensional world under the pseudonym of en la superficie

His practice constantly strives to combine hyper-local landscapes with the use of advanced manufacturing techniques to produce various material experiments, which often lead to industrial design pieces, limited editions, and self-initiated projects.
